Regrading in Brightspace

You create a quiz/exam in Brightspace, and after you open it up for your students, you get an email stating that one of the questions is not graded correctly. You edit the quiz, click on the Add/Edit Questions button, and then for that particular question you notice that an incorrect option was set up as being correct. What should you do now?

Scenario 1: You decide to correct the quiz question right away and then regrade the quiz.

Note: The correct version of the question will be offered ONLY to the students who have not completed the quiz yet.

To regrade the quiz questions, go to Activities/Quizzes, click on the chevron on the right of the quiz name, and choose Grade from the contextual menu. In the next screen, click on the Questions tab and select Update all attempts. You have the option to give all attempts the maximum points possible for that question, regardless of the chosen answer, or give points only to students who have selected a particular answer. Step by step instructions are available in the Regrading a Quiz article.

Important: When you correct a question for a quiz that has been attempted by at least one student, that old version of the question is actually taken out of the existing quiz’s attempts and it will be listed down at the bottom, in the Questions that are not in the quiz anymore section. Make sure you click on the quiz question listed at the bottom of the screen (the old version of the question) and then apply the regrading.

Scenario 2: You don’t correct the quiz question, as all students have already completed the quiz, but you want to regrade it.

To regrade the quiz questions, go to Activities/Quizzes, click on the chevron on the right of the quiz name and choose Grade from the contextual menu. In the next screen, click on the Questions tab and select Update all attempts. Step by step instructions are available in the Regrading a Quiz article.

Scenario 3: As only one or two students have completed the quiz, you decide to fix the question, clear the student’s quiz attempts and allow them to start fresh, with a perfect quiz! No regrading needed!
