View Content as a Learner – Preview Content and Student Gradebook

This article provides Instructors with step-by-step instructions describing how view content and the gradebook from the student/learner’s perspective.

To access the View as Learner feature:

1. Click on your name in the top-right side of the minibar.

2.  Select View as Learner to preview your course as a student.

3.  Once the feature is on, you will return to the Course’s home page. Notice that it reads as learner under your name. You will also note that your editing privileges won’t be shown in this mode.

4.  Most of your course elements will now appear as they will to learners. Explore the content and assessments area.
You can also have a general preview of the Gradebook to see what it looks like from a learner’s point of view.  This is helpful particularly when you wish to determine whether a grade item is hidden or revealed to students.

5.  To exit the View as Learner feature click on your name again (in the upper right corner of your page), and select the X next to where it says Viewing as Learner. You will return to the Course’s home page once again and your full editing controls will be back on.

Note: since you will be impersonating the learner’s perspective (and not a particular learner), you won’t be able to view individual grades, quiz attempts, or any content that has group restrictions.

Previewing a Student’s Grades

IMPORTANT:  To view a particular learner’s gradebook (from that student’s perspective), make sure you return to your regular Instructor role within your course (see step 5 above):

1. From the navbar click Grades.

2.  In the Enter Grades section, go to the student’s name and click on the chevron to the right of their name.
     a.  Select Preview.
     b.  You can now preview the learner’s gradebook as it would appear to the learner.
